but as I told you... I didn't chase the white rabbit!
Who: The Alices and Clock
What: Open the first door and see what you find. Hopefully it's a key... maybe it's something more.
Where: World One - The Country of Clover
Warnings: General violence and disregard for life.
'▒▒▒▒▒, you fool... it was all just a dream'...
If she could have thought that to herself, then she might have believed it. Here were the high vaulted ceilings of Clover Tower that she'd grown so used to since the shift to the Country of Clover. And yet her name was still lost to her. She could not think it... could not say it... It was as though someone had stolen it entirely, as odd of a thing as that sounded. That was all she needed to know to prove she wasn't dreaming. Then that meant it was as the rabbit and cat said-- in order to retrieve the rabbit's keys, they needed to enter the doors and the door took them straight into peoples' hearts.
This one no doubt was supposed to be her own. How else could this place be replicated so accurately? None of the others should know a thing about Wonderland. After all... this was her dream. Her messed-up, embarrassing, dangerous... oh no.
Outside the window the forest, the castle and the Hatter Mansion were all as they should be. But what had happened to the others? If they had been split up, there was no telling what manner of characters they might have met. While they should be safe as Outsiders, Clover has never seen any other Outsiders. Like this, there's no way to be sure they're safe.
Whatever's happened - this is no time to be sleeping. She needs to verify what's going on in this world and the whereabouts of the people that entered with her. If this was a true and accurate reflection of the world that she knew, then she needed to warn them of a great many things.
Down the tower stairs she goes... to investigate the fate of herself and those who had gone with her.

But this time had been different. Like it or not, it was the only way that any of them would be able to move forward. And even though they were strangers they... they all protected her and fought over her in the same way she'd grown uncomfortably familiar with. Yet again she was forced to face that uncomfortable reality that deep down this was what she had wished for. And because she had wished it... because her heart still desired it... these innocent people had been involved as well.
That was why she had to be the one to get them out. She couldn't leave them here. Fighting back her own ill stomach she'd collected them all.
And when she was finished... when she brought them to the door... she didn't feel much like talking. Her eyes were downcast as unsteady fingers gently placed the precious clocks into place. When the door finally opened, she hesitated. There was no telling what could come next. No one said this would be over. So she braced herself for the worst... if there really was anything worse than this... and forced one foot to follow the other through the door.]
Somewhere Peter is crying, I feel
When approached, the grave will only have simple words upon it:
Here lies Lorina Liddell
Beloved daughter and sister ]
I believe it
Lorina...
Her fists clench but-- instead of strength she only finds herself feeling more broken up. First the trial to get here and now this. It's as if she doesn't see the key or the vial at all, going down on her knees and reaching out to the stone. It's unpleasantly cold.]
...
[Silent tears are falling before it's even really sunk in. There are no loud sobs, just many tears that just... won't stop.]
no subject
[ The Cat's cruel voice cuts through the quiet. It's unbearably serene as he watches her cry. His grin is wide, and just as cruel as his voice. ]
You always knew this was the truth, right? Just didn't wanna admit it.
no subject
[Did she...?]
How could I have known?
[How long has it been since she was under this tree? The only way she knew to count it was in time periods. That was the only way to measure any time spent in that world.]
She was the one I was doing all this for... Gathering the liquid, getting the keys... all I wanted to do was go back home...
[Was it? Had she really done everything she could to make it possible? Wasn't there a part of her that didn't exactly hate being in Wonderland? No... no... this was... this was where she wanted to be. Just because she... hadn't always thought of it...]
no subject
[ She's here now. But she's alone. Was it worth it? It's what she wanted. But the thing about Hearts is that you have to face the harsh truth. They weren't lying about the whole "secrets laid bare" thing. ]
Or were you really that lonely you'd accept a world like that just to have someone?
no subject
[But a part of her knows that there's some truth there. The people there... even if she never asked for it, they met a need no one else in the world did.]
I... I just...
no subject
[ He laughs at that. ]
Tell me, Lorina. Why's she even dead? Can ya even remember that?
no subject
[This is all too much too fast. The information just swirls in her head along with her own insecurities and doubts biting at her heels. Did she? Had she just run away...? What happened...? Her head hurts but she can't find the answer.]
I don't know...
no subject
[ He'll just lie down on top of the gravestone, and reach out to poke her forehead. Immediately, all of the suppressed memories will return--the awful truth no longer hidden.
Somewhere, a rabbit and a caterpillar are screaming. The beautiful, serene area withers within seconds, becoming a barren, desolate place. ]no subject
She immediately clenches her eyes shut and covers her hands over them anyway.]
...what did you do to my memories?!
[Anything else seems impossible. And so she blames the cat. After all... she'd remember something like this. How could she forget something so awful? So heart-achingly sad? No... there's no way. He did this. It had to be his fault.]
I remember it-- the garden, my sister... we were going to play a game. And then... and then that rabbit... None of this is real-- it's not! It can't be!
no subject
[ He snickers at her, just lounging on the grave. It's so very cat-like, and yet he's dressed like a person. ]
Not my fault they were all locked up. I didn't take that from ya. Might wanna ask around when you go back. See who did.
no subject
[She has no reason to know that except her complete and honest need to believe that. There was no need to question it. She had her answer.
...so why did she still feel like she was still under attack?]
You did this... take it back!
no subject
[ He'll snicker again, and just watch her. ]
...But wait. That's not your name. Hey. You're special in one way. Your name's Alice, ain't it? Kinda funny your name's the least special name in this World, huh?
no subject
...Alice...
[Oh!] My name... [It wasn't special at all and yet she surprisingly happy to hear it after the time spent without it.] But then... why couldn't we say it before?
no subject
[ Then she either has to accept this as the truth, or her name as a lie. ]
no subject
[Right... the thing he took... Alice looks down and there it is, along with what she assumed must be the White Ra-- Robert's key. Carefully, she picks them both up. The key gets pocketed immediately while she stares at the vial a little longer.]
...
[No. No... don't think about it. When this is all over, she can confront him. For now there's nothing she can do to prove it either way.]
If you did something to me, I'll find out.
[It's a weak threat that under normal circumstances would have come out a lot stronger, but it simply says what conclusion she's come to. When this is all over and she can leave this place, she'll find out one way or another whether it was his fault or something else entirely.]
no subject
[ He shrugs. Already, the world around them is beginning to fade. ]
...But you already know it, don'cha Alice? That the reason she's dead...
...It's all your fault.
